Sinatra found success as a solo artist after he signed with Columbia Records inbecoming the idol of the " bobby soxers ".

Sinatra retired for the first time inbut came out of retirement two years later. Using his Las Vegas shows as a home base, he toured both within the United States and internationally until shortly before his death in Sinatra forged a highly successful career as a film actor.

On December 11,he was officially classified 4-F "Registrant not acceptable for military service" by his draft board because of a perforated eardrum. However, U. His February recording sessions inaugurated the studios at the Capitol Records Building complete with a piece symphonic orchestra. Look At Me Now" and " From This Moment On " revealed "powerful sexual overtones, stunningly achieved through the mounting tension and release of Sinatra's best-teasing vocal lines", while his recording of "River, Stay 'Way from My Door" in April demonstrated his "brilliance as a syncopational improviser".
