Forbidden is the 18th studio album by English rock band Black Sabbathreleased in June It was the last album to feature Tony Martin on vocals, Geoff Nicholls on keyboards, and the last by the band until when Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler returned for the album The album sold 21, copies in the U. S in its first week and as of Black Sabbath - ForbiddenForbidden has soldcopies in the US.

The album received a generally negative response from critics and fans alike. After its release, the band underwent several line-up changes and found itself at a career crossroads. The recording of Forbidden followed some late lineup changes within the band, with Butler replaced by Murray and Powell returning in the immediate aftermath of the Cross Purposes tour. The album was launched in June The album's opening track, "The Illusion of Power", features a verse by hip-hop artist Ice-T of the group Body Count[2] delivering a spoken word part during the song's bridge.

Body Count member Ernie C produced, recorded, and mixed the album. Forbidden was panned by critics upon its release. AllMusic 's Bradley Torreano gave the album only one and a half stars, remarking that "with boring songs, awful production, and uninspired performances, this is easily avoidable for all but the most enthusiastic fan". Black Sabbath - Forbidden also stated that he considered it a "sad state of affairs" given the band's long history.

Band members have since spoken about their mixed opinions of the album. Vocalist Tony Martin made known his feelings in an interview in Julyduring which he stated: "Well, Forbidden is I want to say 'crap', but it's actually not".

He added that he thought the songs worked in rehearsals, but other factors, such as rumours of a reunion of the original Black Sabbath line-up and the record company wanting to "take [the album] and see what Ice-T wanted to do", gave the album Black Sabbath - Forbidden "distinct ill feeling". Martin also maintained that he never believed a " Run-D. There's always certain bands that get a great reaction and Black Sabbath is always one of them. He elaborated by saying, "We brought in Ernie C to do production, which was a bit difficult really, because I had to leave him to it… One of the problems was we weren't all Black Sabbath - Forbidden at the same time, when we were writing it.

Cozy and Neil were still contracted to do other stuff, so it ended up with just Tony Martin, Geoff Nicholls and myself just jamming around and putting ideas down. It all came together very quickly and we didn't have time to reflect: make sure it was the right songs and the right way of doing it.

  1. May 13,  · 18th studio album by Black Sabbath. This album reunites the line-up that appeared on the band's release, ladoramoonshaperarashakar.infoinfo marks only the 2nd time that the same line-up appeared on a 2nd Black Sabbath record since original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne left the band/5().
  2. Forbidden, Black Sabbath's last studio release (as of this writing), falls far short of the greatness of band's best work. Recorded in only ten days, the album .
  3. But poor Black Sabbath named an album Never Say Die because they meant it, and this sad album is a reminder of how dim even the brightest lights can get. Where their last album was an uneven but pleasant return to form, this is just the band going through the motions.3/
  4. I read the Forbidden section, but when you said ‘all of it’, I presumed you meant from ! Just my two cents worth, I have always thought Cozy Powell regretted getting back into Sabbath, with the recording of the Forbidden album & it’s ‘issues’ for him & then the poor ‘US’ tour that followed!
  5. Jun 15,  · Otherwise, the overall sound of this album is a mix of 70s Sabbath, 80s metal/hard-rock, a bit of grunge (Soundgarden, Alice In Chains - which makes sense, as those bands were very Sabbath influenced!), but with Black Sabbath's signature slightly darker tone. Overall, a typical Sabbath album/5(94).
